Old question -do you send the patient home and reschedule after they have treated their hair? Is the diagnosis of lice in our scope of care?

Lice is a problem with sleep centers since I have been in sleep, and I have more than 30 years in the field., If you have a patient and you see head lice you should inform the patient of the condition. The patient should then be referred back to the referring physician for treatment of the condition, or to the medical director of the sleep center. The condition and action must be documented in the patient's record.

Once the condition has been treated and cleared up, the patient can then be scheduled for testing.

Lice is a contagious/spreadable condition. In most states, disinfection of the room/facility is required if you proceed with testing of a patient with lice. All it takes is one person to say they contracted the condition at your facility. If that happens, now you have a real problem
