Night differential increases......

Postby Sleepy in the South » Sun Mar 24, 2013 9:59 pm

From previous posts, we know night differentials varies greatly depending on what region and cost of living expenses but I was wondering how does your lab handle differential increases? At my hospital, we have annual raises across the board but it is based on our hourly pay minus the differential (base pay). That means my night differential hasn't changed for over 4 years.

How does other labs specifically hospital based labs handle differential increases if at all any?

Has anyone experience an increase in differentials? By how much?

I've never seen the shift differential change anywhere I have worked.

If you are lucky it's a %... most places I see around the 1-2$ range these days. Maybe a weekend bump too if you are lucky ; )

Wow you guys... I was making $2.75/hr shift diff for nights and another $3.00/hr for working weekends at a major hospital in the MID 1990s. I always worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights then took the REST OF THE WEEK OFF!!!

Spent most of that time off at Topsail Beach, North Carolina.

10% of base pay the 1st 4 hours then 15% the last 8. Weekend diff adds an extra 15% and the same with holiday pay!

Ours has been $3/hr for years. There is also a weekend differential on top of that. It works out to .60 more. The night starts after 6PM

Where do you work sleepy? Did you hire on as the weekend person or get told after?

It never hurts to ask, but just be prepared to get shot down : )
