Maybe it was and I read it wrong. Either way, $8/hr is still ridiculous. Made more than that waiting tables.

There is an IDTF down the road that hires right out of Walmart, the lab owner walks into the store about 3 am, anyone who approaches him to offer help he offers them a buck/hr raise and an exciting new career in the medical field, his logic is that they must like night shift and any poor soul at Walmart that cares enough to offer to help somone in the middle of the night must really care and be wired to provide great customer service. His staff trains them OJT, which consists of plug that yellow wire into that socket, paste the other end somewhere around this place on your patient. They get to solo almost right away with 3 patients (they get a small pay bump on the nights they have 3), and within a few weeks they can score too! But if they score an AHI below 5, the owner overscores it next day and gets it up over 5 so they get a PAP titration study out of it, and they also are a DME so they may get a CPAP set up as well. Any doctor who refers patients gets to read tests too, after a brief CME (they write the reports for them), that drives their volume up. They have been doing this for 10+ years and grow and open satellite locations faster than any legitimate operation in the area. Owner also has the employee sign a no-compete contract upon hire which bars them from working for any other sleep lab in the area for years, so if and when they realize they are working for a shady operation, and they want to leave this mill, but stay in the field legitimately, they have to relocate or he will sue them. The most disturbing part is that they test pediatric patients.

Do they do Medicare patients?

If so, maybe you want to let Uncle Sam know about how tax dollars are wasted here....

Does FLA LCD mandate Reg staff?

NY State mandates it and I know an IDTF that makes the paperwork look like REG techs run the studies when they dont. In fact, they just got a contract to run a hospital based lab. Who says crime doesnt pay?

The sunny place for shady people. The LCD does mandate RPSGT, RRT, etc and yes they do seem to find ways around that and somehow continue to thrive. I think for the non-qualified docs they only read for commercial payors though, and there seem to be no rules at all for that, other than must be a MD or DO.
