RPSGT Raises

Postby dreamwatcher » Tue Jun 15, 2004 11:12 am

Good morning all. I was wondering of your sites give raises for passing the RPSGT Boards. If so, how much? I got $1.50/hour when I passed, but that was years ago. What is the going rate now?

Thanks to all

I'm suppose to get a $1-2 raise when I pass (which will hopefully be this Saturday  ). I'd like to know what the average pay is for a RPSGT in hospitals and independent labs. Also, how much more does a respiratory therapy degree get you?

That's a great raise, though in a previous thread you stated that you only make $12 base pay per hour now. See http://www.binarysleep.com/phpbb2/viewt ... sc&start=0 so I would think that a $10 raise for passing your registry is a great raise but your current salary is not at all good.

OK, maybe I'm only getting a small raise because I'm already making $16/hr. Of course, I score the studies I'm running that night and have them ready for the Dr. that morning. Shouldn't you be getting paid more if you're scoring the studies too?

I actually never got a raise...I was working here at the hospital for a while and had been working on passing the exam for my own benifit..In case I decide to leave or go be a manager somewhere someday. We had received a couple of raises that year I took the exam because of some restructuring of the pay scale.....so I really didn't need to press the issue.

It took me months to get it, but I got a 1.75 for passing the test. It works out to about 10% raise.

hi, first time post.

Here at my company in GA we start @ 10/hr non registered and after registration are supposed to be @ 18/hr. But we get a garuanteed $1 every 12months, and are evaluated for a $1 raise every 6months. I been doing this 8 months now and make $12.

Raise for RPSGT

Postby Kev » Sun Mar 27, 2005 1:26 am

At our center non-Reg techs who have graduated from a 1 year Polysomnography program and have completed at least 360 clinical hours performing hook-ups and study observations under the supervision of a Registered Tech make $16.10 plus $1.75 diff plus $2.00 weekend diff if they work Friday, Sat., or Sunday night. So they can make up to $19.75 an hour if they work weekends.

Once they pass their exam the pay goes to $21.00 even plus $2.00 diff plus $2.00 diff if they work weekends.

Bottom line is $4.90 base pay raise plus $0.25 diff raise for a total of $5.15 an hour.

Yearly performance evaluations will add 0% (low) to 6% (high) to base pay.

My actual Registered pay is higher than the above numbers since I have been Registered since June of 1998 and have been employed here for many, many years.

On a side note our center will pay the BRPT exam fee (over $300) when a tech passes the exam and signs a contract saying they will not voluntarily leave within 12 months of passing their exam.

If they are fired during the 12 month period the fee is deducted from their last check. (This has never happened so far).

I can't speak to other states but starting salaries in the detroit metro area in sleep labs seem to be running from about $17 - $21 for Respiratory Therapists who choose sleep (not OJTs) and $19 - $25 for therapists who choose hospital work - that is starting for CRT on the low and RRTs on the high. IF you have neonatal certification, PFT registry or other specialized certifications and more years of experience you can command more. If you work midnights add on about $1.00 an hour or so. Good salaries for those who stay in the field and build on experience. If you have a bachelors you can be a department manager or supervisor or an educator. RTs go into drug and equipement sales.

I make 17.25, and will get almost a dollar raise once I pass the RPSGT exam, hoping to hear good news any day now.

Been in the business for 6 years, no intention of leaving anytime soon.

Lows and highs for my lab are about 13.00-20.00 considering education, training, experience and seniority. Our company will also pay for the RPSGT exam one time, adn for now, you do not have to stay for a contracted time afterward, but I forsee that changing soon. (Couple of techs have left...)
