Hi, We are considering purchasing Nihon Kohden for our sleep system. What do people like or dislike? Reliabile amps, scoring ease, tracing quality, Polysmith database, audio/video quality...? Also we will be looking to interface to our EMR (Epic).

Any feedback (good or bad) is very helpful!

Thanks
Gina

I use it at my part-time lab, and I like it quite a bit. Signal quality is superior to Alice 5 (IMO), and its very stable.

We score on the fly and it is very intuitive and easy to navigate.

Overall I like it almost as much as Sandman from a night tech perspective. Alice 5 isnt bad my any means, but in my opinion the signals are a bit bubbly & cartoonish looking. The NK system seems to have better resolution.

I use NK Polysmith at my full-time job and really like it. It's easy to learn, easy to score on the fly, reports are great, etc... The only problem we've had is occasionally it will crash and need restarted however, this happens with other systems too.

ah breath of fresh air

we have been using NK Polysmith now for three years. We have not had ANY problems. A shut down here and there but no lost studies etc.
If you are going to purchase soon or thinking of getting it ASK about up grades and get it in writing.
All in all having had to deal with that EVIL EVIL lady system ….NK has made my work life enjoyable once more.

Scoring is a breeze and even scoring on the fly is easy.

Thanks for the feedback on Polysmith and NK. We are definitely wanting to get the NK system for our sleep lab at this point. We are working with our purchasing team and IS at this point trying to work out the numbers. Thanks for the tip on the upgrades! We can't wait to move past Alice and all of her quirks and get a real system to play with!

Well, just about anything is better than Alice! Be careful with what NK promises, as stated above, writing, writing, writing

PTAF?

We purchased NK and will have it installed in the near future. What did you folks do about pressure transducer flow? I see on the quote it doesn't include it. Does it come with it or do I need to purchase additional modules? If so any recommendations? Thanks.

We have pressure transducer flow.. not sure why your version would not have it.
Do not allow non-cliniical peoploe have anything to do with set up..they will mess it all up....We also have ETCO2 and we have a 3 y/o version of NK

Thanks for the reply. Did it come with seperate modules like the pro-tech ptaf boxes for example or is it built in? I didn't see anything on the headbox or amp that the cannula would attach to. Though I could have missed it. I appreciate the help. For the set up they're sending an installer but he doesn't know about it from the clinical end. Apparently we don't have a choice on who installs it. They will send a trainer out after the install.

it was built in toto the unit. you just set it up on your head box. The head box has ports for SpO2 and Co2 left hand lower side of box face....but teh again you have newer version.
Write down all your questions and concerns and when NK comes for installation and training make them go over everything again and again until your eyes bleed and their brain explodes!

An update...I need to purchase the ptaf units. I'm going to go with ptaf2 or ptaf lite (have to do some research on it).

Which headbox are you going with? the 921 or the 1100? The 1100 does require the PTAF lite or 2 but has integrated ETC02 built in. We are thinking of getting the 1100 headboxes for our purchase. Anyone else in negotiations with NK?
