Displaying credentials

Postby MrBig » Fri Jun 26, 2015 8:36 am

What's your thoughts/opinions on displaying credentials (on ID badges, reports, etc) that aren't directly sleep related? Example: If someone has a Bachelors/Masters/PhD degree in say, engineering or theology or something. Thanks.

It's considered bad form to follow your name with the Bachelor's credential. Unless it's directly related to your sleep practice (eg PhD in cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia), displaying other credentials is self-aggrandizement.

Your ID badge should apply solely to your function so that there is no misunderstanding about your role in the patient's care. Here in Florida, the law states that only a medical doctor or phd can address patients as dr.so-and-so. This has become somewhat of an issue in Florida now that nurse practitioners are getting doctorates. They can display their credential, DNP, but cannot call themselves dr. so-and-so in the medical office.
