Sleep Physician Study Order

I have a question. What regulation require an order form with instructions of sleep study signed by sleep physician?

That would be determined mostly by state mandate, Dept of Health or other such agency regulating medical procedures or those who perform such. There are such things as verbal telephone orders, so not everything is in the form of a form. (heehee) (And I like forms, as my history will attest to the many arguments about forms and such.) Having clear instructions is important, but not always obtainable with information passing through many hands on its way to the eventual test.

There are no hard and fast regulations that I have ever found.

The only thing I have ever seen is that there must be an order. It doesn't even have to be signed by a sleep physician.

The referring provider can sign an order for a sleep study, I guess.

Frankly, I don't really deal with that end of things. I am a tech - just give me an order and I will do it.

The instructions or description don't have to be on the order itself. If the studies are listed in the Policy and Procedure Manual, then all you need is what study to perform.
