Ending MSLT

Postby rafeekmk » Wed May 23, 2018 6:35 am

Hi

Patient sleep onset is 2 minute and REM onset is 4 minute (from SO) can we end that NAP immediately after the REM onset or needs to complete total 15 minutes?

"The test continues for 15 minutes from after the first epoch of sleep."

Let 'em sleep. wake 'em up 30 epochs after sleep onset.

The “wake immediately if REM is seen” is artifact from Mary’s original RESEARCH protocol when developing the MSLT.

As Ray noted, the CLINICAL protocol is to wake 15 mins after SO regardless of stages seen.

The “end MSLT” after any 3 SOREMPs is artifact from the research protocol too. Clinical protocol states it may end after 3 SOREMP in first 4 naps, but not that it must end. I want to see all 5 naps regardless.

Hell, given my druthers, I’d just have the MSLT run 5 35 minute nap opportunities

The fear of running set length naps is that it could possibly expunge REM pressure and not get adequate REM representation on later naps. So it is best to keep it to their druthers.
