Spindles or Alpha intrusion to SWS

Postby Modifier1 » Mon Apr 15, 2019 5:31 pm

Hi there,

Just a quick question which I hope some of you can aid me with. I'm currently viewing many of my NREM 3 epochs which present with consistent transient alpha delta sleep.
To my understanding sleep spindles can also be present during SWS.

Question:
Is there any particular pattern which would enable me to correctly identify if what I'm viewing is either an alpha intrusion superimposed on the slow waves, or if it is indeed a sleep spindle occurring during NREM3.

Understandably if the superimposed activity is greater than 13hz it could be assumed to be a spindle - but there is an overlap in alpha and spindle frequency (11-16hz).

Thank you for any answers!

Spindles are transient .5 - 2sec in duration. Alpha can be ongoing.
